Rare Pedestal Stem Compote
C 1750/60
Item Ref: 355
A very large
and impressive sweetmeat, or more likely, a compote glass, the wide cup bowl ( 5 1/2
ins) has two tooled rings at the rim and sits on a double merese over an eight
sided pedestal stem with arched shoulders and long tear to a four ring basal collar
, all standing on a large domed and folded foot.
Compote's
from this period are very rare and I could only find one other reference which
is a baluster period example discussed and illustrated in the Golden Age Of
English Glass by Dwight Lanmon, he also comments that he could find no other parallels.
Height 6 3/4 ins
17.1 cm
A magnificent glass in superb original condition.
