A excellent early Heavy Baluster ale or wine glass having a conical bowl with solid base over a large inverted baluster knop with tear, all on a folded conical foot.

Elegant in it's simplicity of form with perfect balance this type is more frequently seen in much larger glasses from the same date described as ale glasses ( photo shown from my archive ), this may be a short ale version, the only other example I can locate ( minus the tear to stem ) is illustrated in " The Price Guide to 18th century Drinking Glasses " by Turnbull and Herron. group 1 No 8 ( which is also in the Adamson Collection ).
