A very unusual hollow stem wine glass, having a wide conical bowl with solid base over an inverted baluster baluster stem which is completely hollow, all on a folded conical foot.

Hollow stem glasses are often referred to as "Excise Glasses", however at this date the glass tax was on the raw materials entering the glass house , not the individual items produced, hollow stem glasses have been a feature of wine glasses from the 16thc , originally in Venice and then throughout Europe .
