A Fine Potsdam/Zechlin Gilded Goblet

A Fine Potsdam/Zechlin Gilded Goblet

c1750

Item Ref: 219

The glass house at Potsdam (west of Berlin) was founded by the Elector Friedrich Willhelm of Brandenburg in 1679. In 1736 it moved to Zechlin where it remained under state control until 1890, producing fine glass for the royal household's table.

This is a superb goblet with original cover. It has a large round funnel bowl with gold gilded rim above a facet cut inverted baluster with gilded knops above and below - all standing on a conical foot. The cover, decorated "en suite", is original and a rare survivor - most covers for goblets having been lost over time.

Height: Goblet 6 7/8th ins - with cover 10 ins
