Engraved Opaque Twist Wine Glass
C 1760/65
A beautifully engraved wine glass, having a bell bowl with a very finely engraved bird on a branch, over a double series stem and all on a plain conical foot.
Height 6 3/8th ins 16.2 cm
Engraved animals and birds are rare subjects to find on wine glasses, this example is very similar and almost certainly engraved by the same hand to one illustrated in The Seton Veitch Collection , Delomosne and Son Ltd 2006, where it is suggested that there may be a Jacobite connection , "The Blackbird" was a favourite nickname for Prince James Francis Stuart, the Old Pretender. is this one also a blackbird , possibly not !!
A very delightful glass with a rare subject that is very well engraved , having polished details on the wings and tail. In perfect original condition
